Today, Hello Games released No Man’s Sky Xeno Arena update 6.3, which changes the entire landscape of combat.
No Man’s Sky Xeno Arena update 6.3 is a massive shift from previous gameplay, adding in a Pokémon-style turn-based creature battle system that allows Travellers to raise, train, and battle the diverse fauna found throughout the universe in simulated combat environments. You’ll be able to assemble a team of up to three adopted creatures to participate in tactical combat, with battles set to all-new music, cinematic cameras, and a dedicated combat log.
Battles take place on new holographic combat stations that are now available at the Space Anomaly, space stations, planetary outposts, and settlements. You can challenge other players (PvP) at the Anomaly or NPC “system champions” elsewhere to battle, as seen below:
Every creature in No Man’s Sky Xeno Arena update 6.3 has a unique move set that is broken down between attacks, heals, shields, and status effects. These moves are determined by its species and native climate, including abilities such as Wild Charge, Prismatic Shield, and Megaton Beam.
You’ll also be able to modify your companion’s genetics to improve health, agility, and battle traits through morphogenetics and genetics using the Egg Sequencer, which will be customizable as you gain experience through battle to unlock further mutations. The update has also increased the maximum number of tamed creatures you can own from 18 to 30, introduced a new NPC to act as a tutorial guide, and added a new faction to the Catalog & Guide dedicated to the battles.

Alongside the combat changes, technical optimizations, and bug fixes were implemented, improving the Nintendo Switch 2’s rendering, PC lighting, and numerous visual tweaks, such as fixing issues where rare crystal-based fauna were invisible or corvette cockpits were clipping. No Man’s Sky is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
