Nexon, one of the videogame industry leaders, is establishing its Mintrocket studio as a corporation. This will allow Mintrocket the chance to create a brand and reputation for itself outside of Nexon, focusing on quickly developing innovative games instead of the large games that Nexon generally publishes.

Nexon launched Mintrocket as a sub-brand and studio in 2022. It launched its first game, Dave the Diver, the following year. Dave the Diver was an instant hit, with over four million sales and a BAFTA Game Award for Game Design. The game still has an overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam, which is the highest rating the platform has.

Mintrocket’s status as a corporation lets it continue this small, more independent culture. It’ll be able to make decisions faster with more simple business procedures compared to Nexon. Mintrocket can focus on innovation and unique game design in smaller, quicker titles as a result.

On the opposite end, Nexon will continue publishing large games like its highly successful Maple Story, KartRider, and Dungeon&Fighter franchises. It has over 45 live service games in 190 countries around the world.

The new corporation will still be a 100% subsidiary of Nexon Korea, and the Head of Mintrocket Division, Jaeho Hwang, will be the first CEO.

Currently, there’s no news about what Mintrocket is working on after the success of Dave the Diver. Whatever it is, it’s sure to be focused on a truly fun experience like the new corporation promises.
