Lego Fortnite was one of Epic Games’ Fortnite’s first big step toward morphing from a battle royale game into a metaverse, and today we learn that a new link will connect the two worlds, at least thematically.

Epic Games has announced a big update coming to Lego Fortnite numbered v30.40 and coming tomorrow, August 6, 2024.

One of its major features is Fortnite’s iconic Battle Bus which will serve as a fast travel means within bus stations, which will already be set up in each world. The cool thing is that you’ll be able to destroy an existing bus station and take its “Rift Shards” to build a new one anywhere you like.

The Battle Bus will pick you up at any bus station and bring you to another of your choice.

Another very welcome quality-of-life feature is the ability to change settings in your world without needing to make a new one. You can change everything besides Player Elimination and the mode (Cozy, Survival, Sandbox, Expert).

Of course, the locked settings in Expert mode will remain locked.

New toys will be added including the following:

  • Pressure Plate: A button you can stand on to turn on channels. The button needs to stay down to work!
  • Trigger Plate: Another button you can stand on to turn on channels. Unlike a Pressure Plate, the button doesn’t have to stay down. (Remember that Thrusters will eventually turn off on their own!)
    • Unlock the recipe for a Trigger Plate by adding Blast Powder to your inventory.
  • Activated Balloon Small: A small balloon that comes uninflated. Inflate it using channel control! (Perhaps a Pressure or Trigger Plate will work?)
    • Unlock the recipe for an Activated Balloon Small by crafting a Loom.
  • Activated Balloon Large: The same thing as an Activated Balloon Small, but bigger. (Woah.)
    • Unlock the recipe for an Activated Balloon Large by crafting a Loom.

A new Lego set, the Pirate Lifestyle, will be added to the shop. You can buy the Captain’s Battlement for 800 V-Bucks, the Captain’s Cabin decor bundle for 300 V-Bucks, the Seaport Style decor bundle for 200 V-Bucks, or the whole big bundle including them all for 1,000 V-Bucks.

Two new vehicle builds, the Kart Racer and Offroad Flyer, will help you travel when you don’t want to take the bus, while the Codex will track all the items and recipes you have found.

Lastly, we got some more additions and tweaks.

Map Improvements

  • You can zoom out much farther on the world map and pan across your entire world.
  • When using a controller, you’ll have a virtual cursor to control the map with.
  • You can ping the map, which will drop a marker in the world to help with your travels

UI Updates

  • Always wanted to carry more stuff? v30.40 increases your inventory to 32 slots!
  • Filter items in the Build menu by theme or Set to quickly find what you’re looking for.
  • Name your worlds and Villages whatever you like! Please follow the Epic Games Community Rules when creating your own names.
