The game was delayed indefinitely after the previous publisher, Bandai Namco, decided to bow out. That being said, Type-Moon opted to continue developing it while looking for a new publisher, leading to today’s announcement.

At the moment, a release date has not been announced, but we know that it’s coming for PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s newest console has just been added to the platform lineup, since it wasn’t previously included.

Aniplex mentions that further information will be shared in September on the new official website and X (formerly Twitter) account, which have also been made public today.

If you’re unfamiliar with Fate/Extra Record, it’s a remake of the original Fate/Extra, a JRPG originally released in 2010 for Sony’s PSP. It’s particularly beloved among fans as the first RPG of the Fate series.

The remake was announced several years ago, in 2020, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original game. In 2024, it was announced that it would be released in 2025 for PS5, PS4, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch.

Last summer, an announcement was shared with a delay to Spring 2026.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Fate series, it originally debuted in 2004 with Fate/stay night, and it has been Type-Moon’s household name for two decades.

Recently, Type-Moon released the remaster of the original game, Fate/stay night Remastered, followed by one of its sequel, Fate/hollow ataraxia Remastered.

While the original was an adult game, the franchise has since shifted to an all-ages target. This is quite common among Japanese franchises that started as eroge, especially when releasing on consoles or getting anime adaptations.

Its popularity has grown exponentially over the years, culminating in the mobile game Fate/Grand Order, which still enjoys a massive audience in Japan and worldwide.
