Today, SCS Software officially announced that the Improved Material System will launch with the 1.60 update for both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Update 1.60 is a major visual upgrade that significantly enhances the internal cabin lighting and texture fidelity, giving players a much more realistic view from the driver’s seat. This was originally tested and fine-tuned during the development of the Road Trip project, but the underlying technology has now been adapted to revamp the existing base-game trucks.
The Improved Material System is being phased into Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator in stages to avoid performance drops on low-end hardware. The first vehicles to feature the overhauled interiors are listed below, and other trucks in the existing fleet will receive this visual upgrade gradually over subsequent future updates.
- Mack Anthem (ATS)
- Western Star 49X (ATS)
- DAF NGD (ETS2)
- MAN TG3 TGX (ETS2)

There are also plenty of key performance and technical changes coming alongside the Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator’s Improved Material System. The system has been created to maximize visual impact while strictly minimizing the impact on frame rates, keeping budget hardware configurations in mind.
Other features teased in update 1.60 so far are the Job Details widget and updates for the Game Radio. American Truck Simulator is available for PC, and it’s the sister game to Euro Truck Simulator 2, with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions set to arrive soon.
American Truck Simulator Version 1.59 for PC has just been launched. For more information on both of these titles, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
