Simulators often have many more controls than can comfortably fit on a controller, but Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator will soon address this issue.
SCS Software announced that the upcoming patch 1.51 that will come to both simulators will include the addition of preset settings for modifiers.
This means that you can see a modifier button that works like a CTRL, ALT, or Shift key on a keyboard. When you press it, it’ll switch the buttons of your controller to a different set of assigned functions.
This means that you’ll likely be able to properly control your truck with a controller without the need for an additional keyboard.
The only drawback is that users who have heavily modified their control layouts via the Steam controller configuration UI may see their custom configuration reset to default after the update, but that’s a small price to pay for a lot of additional flexibility.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 is currently available for PC. It’s one of the few games on Steam that has seen a pretty consistent climb in its peak daily playerbase since its launch in 2012.

American Truck Simulator is also currently available only for PC via Steam and you can enjoy a look at the upcoming Arkansas DLC. The developer is also working on another DLC centered on Missouri.
SCS Software will exhibit its simulators at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover in an interesting and increasingly common collision between simulation and real-world business.
