Today, developer Hound13 released the first look at one of the heroes that will populate its upcoming open-world RPG DragonSword: Awakening.
We get to see Kalien in action. She is defined as the “spiritist of the Red Fox Mercenary Corps,” and she commands Sur, a fire spirit fox. Her combat style is based on the fire elements and on stunning enemies.
If you want to see her in action, the developer released a trailer, showing Kalien’s fiery fighting style and her fox Sur in action.

If you’re unfamiliar with DragonSword: Awakening, it’s a single-player, open-world RPG with optional co-op, developed in Unreal Engine 5.
While its similarity in style to games like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves may make you expect this to be a free-to-play gacha game, it isn’t. It’s a full-fledged buy-to-play game with no gacha.
All Heroes and Equipment in DragonSword: Awakening can be unlocked by playing the story and activities in the game itself. You can level them both up by using resources you gather in the game’s world.
You can play with friends optionally, specifically with another friend in battle gameplay and with two in raid gameplay.
For the moment, the plan is to release only on PC via Steam. There are no plans for mobile platforms, but the developers are “keeping the door open” for consoles.
The developers also plan to continue releasing additional story content, characters, monsters, and DLC after release, which will happen in July 2026. The DLC will include costumes and mounts, while there will also be expansion packs featuring new characters and worlds.
