After a few months of silence, Wild Bunch Production provided an update about the development of its upcoming JRPG Armed Fantasia.

We hear that despite the momentary silence, the project is still progressing the developers make adjustments to bring it closer to what they consider its ideal form.

Even more exciting is the fact that for the first time ever, today we get to see battle gameplay running on development hardware.

You can check it out below.

Of course, this is still a work-in-progress, and character models, effects, lighting, and other elements aren’t yet final and will be further adjusted.

The video shows elements of the game like elemental affinity displays and break turns, but it’s relevant to mention that the battle system also isn’t final and could be changed. More info will be shared at a later date. The same can be said about the values showcased in the gauges.

If you’re unfamiliar with Armed Fantasia, it’s a JRPG coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. The developer also mentioned a tentative version on Nintendo console, assuming that new hardware would come, and the Switch 2 has since been released, so it might be a thing.

The game was originally supposed to come in March 2025 but it has recently been delayed. We don’t yet know the new window.

One of the elements that makes it relevant is the fact that it’s intended as a spiritual successor to the old and glorious Wild Arms series. At the helm is Wild Arms creator Akifumi Kaneko, alongside Wild Arms 5 and XF character designer Tomomi Sasaki, and composers Michiko Naruke (credited for the music of the original Wild Arms) and Noriyasu Agematsu.

It was funded via Kickstarter in a joint campaign with Penny Blood, by Shadow Hearts creator Matsuzo Machida. The campaign earned $2.6 million in 2022, spliy between the two games.

While we don’t know when we may be able to play this JRPG, it’s great to hear that the project is still alive.
