Many artists go through struggles in their creative lives, but Helene Bøksle had to fight against a particularly tragic darkness. Yet, she has won her battle, and now her beautiful voice resonates in Conan Exiles Enhanced.
The theme song “‘Ere The World Crumbles” debuted in the 2008 MMORPG, part of a soundtrack that immediately became special for fans of the world of Conan the Barbarian. It remains one of the best soundtracks ever created for an MMO.
Yet, it was used in the manifesto of the perpetrator of the terror attack on Utøya on July 22, 2011, who murdered 77 people.
As a consequence, Helene suddenly found herself unable to perform, almost as if her voice had been taken away.
Fifteen years later, following a recording process that lasted three years, she is back with the same song, and she’s back in the world of Conan in Conan Exiles Enhanced.
To hear more about the re-recording of this epic, beautiful song, and about Helene’s personal journey, we had a chat with her, in which she provided her insightful thoughts on the process and more.
If you’re interested in video game music, this certainly is an interview that you should not miss.

If you’re unfamiliar with Conan Exiles Enhanced, it was just released a few weeks ago as a full remaster on PC via Steam of the 2018 survival game Conan Exiles by Funcom.
The Enhanced version brings the beauty of Unreal Engine 5 to Conan Exiles, on top of new features and quality-of-live enhancements.
