Today, in an official blog post over on Blizzard, the team behind Overwatch 2 went into considerable detail regarding their design philosophies for the game, including the reasoning behind the changes they made for the sequel and how they are open to testing out a 6v6 combat format.

The post starts by acknowledging the talk surrounding the 6v6, especially since they made a Twitter post about it last week, promising to talk about it in the future. Most of the article details the historical context of the format and why they switched to 5v5, which mostly boils down to trying to make Overwatch 2 feel more balanced and trying to improve queue times.

A little further into the article, they state that they are “looking at running a series of events to try out different core team composition formats in Overwatch 2.” To be clear, they did not give an exact date for the test, nor did they state whether any tests would be open to the public.

The main point of the article is that the team is investigating how long it would take to implement this into Overwatch 2 before a limited test is rolled out. They’re “exploring how they can test different forms of 6v6 in the game to gauge the results” especially in terms of queue times and performance.

They end the blog post by stating that they are thankful for the feedback regarding the big changes between the first and second games and that the discussion behind 5v5 and 6v6 is far from over.

For now, we will just have to wait and see if any more news is unveiled. While you wait, check out new info on Crimson Desert, EA Sports FC 25, and much more via Simulation Daily.
