Sanctuary Games, an independent South Korean studio, has revealed its debut title, a collectible turn-based RPG called Zanerdin: The Unbound.
Zanerdin: The Unbound takes players to Kalatos, a land where people are born with one of six powers (Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, Wind, or Electric). These powers set their lives up, affecting things like their place in society, their fate, and their personal strength.
In the midst of it all is the Chaos region, where those born there have no powers. Players will find themselves here as Zanerdin, and the story follows his journey to learn about his family.
Zanerdin: The Unbound is a turn-based RPG that incorporates what it calls “gacha gameplay” without the need for microtransactions. Players can collect the characters, pets, and equipment through gameplay alone. There are 25 playable characters to collect, each with their own special abilities to use to build teams, along with 10 pets to find.
These characters and pets can be obtained through progressing through the game and exploring the maps. Additionally, there are 60 different turn-based stages, which help players obtain currency and other gacha materials.
After the main story is completed, players can take on a five-versus-five tournament to unlock the end-game mode. This adds a Hardcore battle stage difficulty. Plus, more story content and characters are planned to be released as DLC.

Zanerdin: The Unbound is currently being developed for PlayStation 5 and PC. There’s no release window for the game quite yet, though fans can wishlist it now. A preview of the combat screen can be seen below:

Hyunduk You, the CEO and founder of Sanctuary Games, shared thoughts on the announcement:
“Although we’re an indie-sized team, we don’t believe the narrative needs to be indie-sized. And we believe gacha gameplay can exist and be enjoyable without microtransactions. We’re excited to introduce Zanerdin: The Unbound and the world of Kalatos which brings together those beliefs and our mission to create games that represent what gamers want, not just a features checklist, in a collectible turn-based RPG experience.”
