Orbx released a new update for its flight tracker for flight simulators, Volanta, adding new features and improvements.
Premium users get a nifty feature to help them plan their flights based on real-world schedules, with a series of filters to make it easy and seamless.
Weather gets new layers and is now showcased depending on altitude, and you also get forecasts.
All users get a completely overhauled weather system, with all the bells and whistles, and of course, the patch is topped up with your usual ration of fixes.
You can read the full patch notes below directly from the official Discord server.
Premium Enhancements
- Using our real-world schedules, we added a schedule generator to create flight rosters with filters for airports, airline, aircraft type, domestic/international flights, hub and spoke or continuous mode and more.
- New weather layers: Visibility, Convective Top, Cloud Total, Cloud at Altitude, Icing, Turbulence.
- New weather altitude slider, see the weather at various altitudes not just surface.
- New Forecasts, see upcoming weather changes and advances in weather fronts.
Enhancements
- We’ve completely overhauled our weather system using data since our current provider is ending their free API. It supplies far more relevant and new data at the cost of slightly reduced resolution, the new resolution being a 20km² global grid. The question mark at the top of the weather panel explains the layers.
- A new wind particle animation system has been included to show strength and direction.
- A new map pop up in the lower left shows the weather stats at the clicked location based on layers enabled.
- Updated timezone database.
- Linux AppImages are now built with FUSE 3.
Fixes
- Stream overlays will now work with remote (console) tracking.
- Fixed screenshot upload button not working in the browser.
- Fixed data imports not having flight times and landing rates attributed.
- ATC routes with airport ICAO codes as waypoints will now be displayed.
- Fixed Planespotters image not being fetched.
- Fixed Discord authentication removal not always working.
If you’re unfamiliar with Volanta, it’s a flight-tracking application published by Orbx that is free to download and comes with a growing set of features on top of the basic ability to track your flights.
You can also opt to pay a premium subscription monthly or yearly to unlock even more advanced features like Scheduled pause and more. Subscribers can also get early access to updates.
Volanta is platform-agnostic, so it works with all major flight simulators, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, X-Plane, DCS World, Prepar3D, and more.
It’s currently available for PC, Xbox, iOS, and Android, on top of a handy web browser version, which you can check out without an account to see who’s flying at any given time.
