With Jurassic World: Archipelago releasing tonight for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Orbx updated its flight tracking application Volanta to support its features.
The most interesting part of the update, which is numbered 1.13.0, is the ability to track you not only in flight but also when you leave the cockpit in avatar mode.
This will certainly be useful for those who will enjoy the Jurassic World content, since there is a lot that can be explored on foot.
There’s even a new type of Aerocache that you can find only on foot, and for now, these will be available only in the Jurassic World islands.
For those who are interested in flights where you won’t encounter dinosaurs, the update brings a new plugin for Microsoft Flight Simulator that fixes bugs and improves performance.
It’s worth mentioning that premium users can turn all the fictional content off if they so wish.
Below you can read the full patch notes from Volanta’s official Discord server.
- MSFS24 Avatar mode tracking is now available. Player avatar locations are displayed in Volanta as pins on the ground, locations are tracked with blue lines and become part of your flight record. If you get out of your plane to explore, it’s all part of your journey recorded in Volanta.
- A new type of aerocache has been added for Avatar mode, they are visible on the map as orange circles hinting at where they might be located, only collectable when in avatar mode. Currently only added to the Jurassic World Archipelago so you will need to get up close and personal with some Dinosaurs.
- We have added a new map layer called POIs where we will be able to add locations worth visiting and add more details to our map.
- Themed flight list and flight card styles. Complete flights to or from the Jurassic World airports to see unique styles applied to your flight cards.
- An entirely new plugin for MSFS users, the new plugin is easier to install, fixes bugs like auto selecting aircraft, reduced impact on simulator performance, tracking starting in menus and tracking avatar mode.
- Users who do not wish to see the new Fictional content can toggle it off (requires premium)
If you’re unfamiliar with Volanta, it’s a flight-tracking application published by Orbx that is free to download and comes with a growing set of features on top of the basic ability to track your flights.
You can also opt to pay a premium subscription monthly or yearly to unlock even more advanced features like Scheduled pause and more.
Volanta is platform-agnostic, so it’s compatible with all major flight simulators, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane, DCS World, Prepar3D, and more.
It’s currently available for PC, iOS, and Android, on top of a handy web browser version, which you can check out without an account to see who’s flying at any given time.
