According to the announcement, the open beta can now be freely downloaded on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as long as you are within the regions served, which are the same as the previous limited beta, USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Brazil. More information on regional availability has been promised for a later date.

Cross-platform gameplay is enabled, but only among consoles, so PC players won’t be able to play with those on PlayStation and Xbox, that being said, skins and cosmetics do transfer between all platforms, so you won’t have to rebuy what you already have.

If you’re unfamiliar with Valorant, it’s a 5v5 hero-based first-person shooter launched on PC in 2020. Fans have asked for a console version for quite some time. The port was announced earlier this year at Summer Game Fest, and the limited beta started shortly after.

The game is focused on a conflict among characters defined as “Agents” and divided into four main roles, Duelists, Sentinels, Initiators, and Controllers.

New agents are released often to keep things fresh, and while the game is free-to-play, its business model includes plenty of cosmetic microtransactions for those who want to invest some money into it.

It’s worth mentioning that players who are subscribed to Microsoft’s Game Pass service get access to all the agents without having to otherwise recruit them.

If you’re interested in hero shooters in general, you can also read the recent news about Blizzard considering the return of 6v6 to Overwatch 2, albeit only as a test for now.
