Paradox Arc, Perspective Games, and Bellwood Studios released Tlatoani: Aztec Cities in Early Access today on Steam, giving players the chance to create and raise up an ancient Aztec city-state.

In Tlatoani: Aztec Cities, players will focus on resource gathering and managing, a military, public services, religion, and festivals. Plus, players have to make sure the lives and needs of individually simulated townspeople are fulfilled. Doing all of this correctly leads to players getting the title of Tlatoani, a prestigious title in Aztec culture.

Diplomacy plays a role in Tlatoani: Aztec Cities, too. Players will meet other city-states throughout the journey. They can choose to build alliances or make enemies, and things like trade routes or wars are the results.

There are a variety of ways to play, including eight campaign missions, six freestyle scenarios, and a sandbox mode. More is planned to come throughout the Early Access period, which is expected to be about six months long.

There’s also plenty of Nahuatl language and vocabulary in the game, along with information about Aztec culture. These include festivals, religion, traditions, and even the Aztec calendar.

The unique city-builder features hand-drawn 2D graphics in a beautiful homage to the titles that started the genre.

Players can purchase Tlatoani: Aztec Cities on Steam for $19.99, though it’s on sale for $15.99 (20% off) until November 10.
