Today, Nintendo announced that it’ll be bringing fans a special Nintendo Direct dedicated to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and that it’ll be revealed on November 12, 2025, on YouTube at 6am PT.
The entire direct will be dedicated to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, with Nintendo noting that no game information will be included in this presentation.
This isn’t the first time that the movie series has gotten its own Direct. After taking part in a direct for the official cast announcement back in 2022, a second trailer was released via a Direct, meaning that fans can likely expect the exact same format, with some additional casting thrown into the six-minute preview as well.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was originally released back in 2023, telling the origin story for the brothers Mario and Luigi, two Italian-American plumbers transported to the Mushroom Kingdom. Led by Princess Peach, they must join an army to fight a massive battle against the dreaded Bowser and his Koopas in order to save both worlds.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a massive success, grossing a worldwide total of $1.361 billion, becoming the highest-grossing video game movie of all time. Due to its box office triumph, Nintendo greenlit a sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. While nothing has exactly been confirmed, spin-off movies like Donkey Kong Country, Princess Peach, and Luigi’s Mansion are certainly in the works as well, as the actors have all stated they’d love to reprise their roles.
Regarding The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, it should be interesting to see how Nintendo and Illumination adapt this beloved title to the silver screen. The plot of the game, which was released in 2007, sees Mario embark on an extraterrestrial mission to rescue Princess Peach and save the universe from Bowser.
