The Tekken series enjoys lively communities basically all over the world, and its developers often try to pay homage to these communities with local characters.

Today, Tekken 8 Executive Producer Katsuhiro Harada responded to a question from a fan about the possibility of characters from Turkey.

According to Harada-san’s answer on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account, two individual ideas for Turkish characters have been considered by the development team but ultimately did not work out.

Yet Harada-san mentioned that the team will continue to try to create characters from every country where the franchise’s community exists.

“We have invented, and continue to try, characters from every country where every fan community exists. Individually, we have had two ideas for Turkish characters in the past. However, these ideas may not work out for various reasons that fluctuate, such as timing, compatibility with the fighting style, or market conditions.

Only when the initial inspiration feels right to the end will the character be realized and delivered to you. We will continue to come up with ideas and we are willing to try. Oops, for reasons I’ve mentioned here before, I don’t recommend giving developers ideas for specific fighting styles or character appearances.”

One of the headline characters added to Tekken 8, Azucena, was indeed indicated as a homage to one of the series’ active and lively local communities from Peru.

Tekken 8 is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players have been waiting for the release of a beloved (or much-hated) returning fighter, Heihachi Mishima.

Considering the fact that Tekken 8 was released only in January this year, the game likely has a long life cycle before Bandai Namco sunset its support, which means that there will be plenty of chances for characters from many different nations to be added to the roster.

Incidentally, a relevant Masters tournament (Emirates Showdown 2024) valid for qualification to the Tekken World Tour has just concluded in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

During the tournament, Korean player Kkokkoma (Mu-jung Kim) from Navi won the tournament coming from the Losers Final following an exciting reset against Tekken Master (Sayed Hashem Ahmed) from the Kingdom of Bahrain.
