Konami released the opening cutscene of the upcoming HD remaster of the beloved JRPG Suikoden, included in the bundle Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars.
The cutscene is certainly renewed, with new illustrations and 3D effects, but it retains the nostalgic music that many of the fans of the old game loved.
You can check it out below, directly from Konami’s YouTube channel.
Update: Suikoden also received its opening cutscene.
Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars releases on March 6, 2025, for basically every platform, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
It includes the first two games of the series, created by the late Yoshitaka Murayama who unfortunately passed away before seeing the release of the remasters and his brand-new JRPG, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
If you’d like to see more, you can check out another trailer from a Nintendo Direct this summer and one from the Xbox broadcast at Tokyo Game Show.
If you’re unfamiliar with Suikoden, it launched all the way back in 1995 for the original PlayStation. It was also ported to PC and Saturn in 1998, but only the PlayStation version ever made it to the West between 1996 and 1997 (back then European and North American releases were often staggered).
It’s considered by many one of the best JRPGs of all time, and it’s certainly a joy to know that many younger fans of the genre will finally get a good chance to experience it after thirty years.
