Steam Expands Top Releases Charts to Include Top 50, Historical Data, & More

Today, Valve refreshed its Steam charts format for the first time in a while, making the organization and search tool a bit more user-friendly and expansive. Now, players can sort the most popular games on the service up to the top 50 most current rankings based on revenue and can go through past months all the way back to November 2004.

Searching each month is now convenient and curated, as you can browse by trailer, tier, and DLC for you, which will draw from the top 50 releases to show off the most relevant content based on your interest. You can also still filter lists depending on genre, theme, style, supported, features, or tags.

As of the update, Steam monthly charts will now be automated, meaning they’ll be released exactly 14 days after the end of each month. Previously, they were being done by hand, which made for less consistent publishing schedules, which should no longer be an issue.

Steam

Top Monthly Releases charts are slip up into tiers, with the top 12 games being gold, the next 12 silver, and the remaining titles qualifying as bronze tiers. This is all based on the first two weeks of revenue each game had during its first two months of release.

Games that are in the Steam Early Access program are also able to make it to the Top 50 lists more than once if they do well enough during both the early access launch and the full 1.0 release. DLC has a general tier that can qualify for the list, as well lists that are relevant to your library alone.
