Cloud Imperium Games released another extensive video about its growing space simulator Star Citizen.
This time around, the video focuses on another aspect that will be introduced in Alpha 4.0, which will add to Star Citizen a whole new star system and many more features.
Specifically, we get to take a look at engineering gameplay, which will truly shine on ships manned by multiple crew members.
Players playing the role of the engineer will have to interact with a dedicated panel to monitor the health of the systems and allocate energy resources to them. They will also have to physically repair and at times replace or at least eject damaged components, directly contributing to the survival of the ship,
You can check out the video below.
If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a crowdfunded multiplayer open-world sandbox space simulator that has been in development for several years. It’s directed by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame.
The game has recently passed $724 million in crowdfunding ($724,350,945 at the moment of this writing) and counts 5,346,313 registered users. Of course, many of them aren’t paying customers, as they register accounts to enjoy Free Fly Events.
Besides the existing persistent universe, a single-player campaign named Squadron 42 is also in development (and we learned last year that it was feature-complete), starring an exceptional cast of famous actors including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more.
If you’re interested in flying in more Earthly environments, we just came back from a big preview event for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
About that, you can enjoy our hands-on preview, our interview with Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann and Asobo CEO Sebastian Wloch, another with CCO David Dedeine, our A-10 flight through the Grand Canyon, and our first look at the extensive pilot customization.
Full disclosure: the author of this article has backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
