Today Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games released a new video dedicated to the growing game, including a number of interesting segments.

The first is a rather obvious parody of the intro of the beloved show Airwolf, dedicated to introducing the Mirai Guardian, which apparently is coming with version 4.0. we also get to see the return of Jax McCleary, former ship critic lost in Pyro and obvious homage to Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear and The Grand Tour fame.

We then get an interesting discussion with the developers about the future of capital ship combat, which will prompt players to have to dismantle the defences of a capital ship before being able to either damage its hull to destroy it or to board it.

The next segment focuses on the upcoming RSI Polaris, the first playable combat capital ship in the game, showing off what it can do.

You can watch it below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a crowdfunded project directed by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame. It’s a multiplayer sandbox space simulator exclusive for PC.

At the moment a free fly event is going on to celebrate the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2954, and you can try the game without spending any money until December 5.

The game has just passed $743 million in crowdfunding ($743,566,538 at the moment of this writing) and counts 5,421,435 registered users. Of course, many of them aren’t paying customers, as they register accounts to enjoy Free Fly Events like the one that just started.

A few weeks ago, we also got to see plenty of features and tech coming to the game, on top of the overall vision for version 1.0, which will be the full release of the game, albeit it doesn’t yet have a date.

The game will also have a single-player campaign titled Squadron 42, starring an exceptional cast of famous actors including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more. Recently we saw plenty of gameplay and learned that it’ll release in 2026.

Since the project has been in development for over a decade, you can also see how Squadron 42 evolved since its first reveals.

Full disclosure: the author of this article has backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
