Sony is hosting its press conference ahead of the start of CES 2025 in Las Vegas. As usual, PlayStation took the spotlight during the presentation, but not in the way you’d expect.

As a matter of fact, the livestreamed keynote was introduced by the trailer that celebrated the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, originally released by Sony Interactive Entertainment about a month ago.

CEO Hiroki Totoki started by mentioning “Game of the Year” Astro Bot and the launch of the PS5 Pro and its “over 70 enhanced titles” like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

Yet, the most exciting news did not come directly from PlayStation, but was announced by Crunchyroll and Aniplex, who are partnering to develop an anime TV series based on Sucker Punch’s game Ghost of Tsushima.

Interestingly (and perhaps a little weirdly), the series will be based on the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends online mode. It’ll premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll and it’ll be released in 2027.

Incidentally, Crunchyroll announced that later this year it’ll partner with several Japanese publishers to let its subscribers add a digital manga service to their subscription.

PlayStation Productions (Sony Interactive Entertainment’s arm focused on linear entertainment) also walked on stage and announced a movie adaptation of Arrowhead Studios’ ultra-popular online third-person shooter Helldivers 2.

Guerrilla Games’ open-world action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn is also going to get a film in collaboration with Columbia Pictures.

Lastly, we got a small teaser of the second season of the TV series inspired by The Last of Us presented directly by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, with the announcement that it’ll debut in April.
