Safe In Our World, a mental health charity in the video games industry, has announced its new Mental Health Star Accreditation, a brand-new and first-of-its-kind workplace mental health accreditation.
The Mental Health Star Accreditation is aimed at creating “psychologically safe working environments,” awarding companies that prioritize their employees’ mental health.
There are three tiers of endorsement: Dedicated, Accomplished, and Outstanding. The Mental Health Star is good for three years, though there are yearly check-ins. Safe In Our World will also offer support to accredited companies.
To get the accreditation, companies will undergo an audit that looks at mental health policies and practices, company culture, and sentiments. After that, Safe In Our World will give the company a report, praising what’s being done well and offering ideas for improvement.
The report will also include plenty of details, advice, and even resources to aid companies that fail the accreditation audit. Companies are able to reapply whenever they’re ready after that.
The Mental Health Star Accreditation is meant for anyone and everyone in the industry, whether it’s a small team of a few people or a AAA studio.
Safe In Our World also released a trailer for the new accreditation, which can be viewed below:
Safe In Our World trustee and the Head of Business Development at LootLocker, Erla Arnadottir, shared thoughts on the new accreditation:
“We’ve been long overdue accreditation specific to the unique trials and challenges of the games industry. You can really tell that Safe In Our World has developed this accreditation with all different kinds of companies and their structures and needs in mind.”
