Today, Capcom announced that worldwide sales of Resident Evil Requiem surpassed 5 million units, despite only releasing five days ago on February 27, 2026.
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth mainline game in the Resident Evil series, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this month, and was developed using ENGINE, Capcom’s proprietary game engine. Using this, the title delivers visuals in photorealistic detail, including the characters’ skin, teary eyes, and flowing hair, as well as the translucency of light.
The game also offers a new experience for a broad fanbase through multiple difficulty settings that accommodate newcomers and experienced players alike, and allows players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives in real-time to suit their individual play styles. Resident Evil Requiem follows FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who investigates a series of mysterious deaths involving the survivors of the Raccoon City incident with the help of the federal agent and returning protagonist Leon S. Kennedy.
Gameplay alternates between Grace and Leon, with Grace’s missions continuing the survival horror gameplay of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village as she evades zombies and monsters, and Leon’s missions are action-oriented, similar to games such as Resident Evil 4, battling enemies head-on.
The story is set in October 2026, 28 years after the destruction of Raccoon City, with plenty of major returning locations and characters. Players will explore semi-open world smaps, including the condemned Wrenwood Hotel, the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, and the ruins of Raccoon City.
Resident Evil Requiem is available now for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. For more information on this and other survival horror titles releasing in 2026, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
