Today, during an Xbox livestream from Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer shared a message with the fanbase, focusing mostly on the Japanese and Asian markets, including a tease for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 fans.

During the livestreamed broadcast, Spencer had a few interesting details on the market penetration of Xbox games and consoles in Asia.

That included the mention that more people are playing Xbox games across all devices in Asia this year than ever before (which isn’t unpredictable, considering the acquisition of Activision, but we also hear that the number of Xbox console players is at its highest ever.

“We’re continuing to see growth in the region. This year, more people are playing with Xbox across all devices in Asia than ever before, and we’ve seen the largest number of Xbox console players in the region to date”

Following a breakdown of the upcoming lineup of games and Japanese localizations, Spencer talked about the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on November 19, 2024.

He then reminded that after the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator in 2020, the first free World Update presented at Tokyo Game Show featured Japan. He also revealed that the audience for the simulator in Japan has grown significantly, and Microsoft has “more cool content planned for Japanese players in the future,” encouraging fans to stay tuned.

Later in the live stream, Xbox President Sarah Bond added that over 1,400 Xbox and PC games are in active development from creators across Asia.

No further details were provided about what Spencer is teasing for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. One thing is for sure. Tokyo desperately needs new photogrammetry since what we have is from 2014 (it still features Destiny ads in Akihabara. I’m quite familiar with it because I was there at that time), but I digress.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what the teams at Microsoft and Asobo have in store for the Japanese audience of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, since Japan is an absolutely beautiful country to fly over, so any dedicated content is very welcome.
