The trailer provided a look at the logo, the console itself, its docking station, and the detachable controllers. Interestingly, the controllers have what appears to be a glide pad where they touch the console’s body, and are portrayed gliding on a surface like a mouse would do.

We also see a Mario Kart game, and that’s pretty much it. The console does look remarkably similar to the Switch, suggesting an iterative approach like what we saw with the ultra-successful DS series.

This is also confirmed by the fact that the console is backward compatible and will play Nintendo Switch games alongside its own.

The video does not provide a single hint about the hardware specs, battery life, screen, or anything of the sort, but at least we know that it’s coming in 2025.

We also know when we’ll hear more, during a Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025. It’ll be followed shortly after by hands-on experiences in a variety of locations like New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, London, Milan, Chiba (at the Makukari Messe near Tokyo, where Tokyo Game Show is usually hosted), and more.

The timing of the broadcast and the precise release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 have not been revealed, and we’ll have to wait to hear more.

In the meantime, you can check out the video for yourself below and see if you can catch any details we haven’t noticed. You can also hear an article we recently published about how it’d make perfect sense for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to be released on the Switch 2 alongside the PS5.
