Today publisher aNCHOR announced Muv-Luv Tactics, a brand-new game within the popular Muv-Luv series.
For now, the title is tentative, so it may change down the line, but we do know that (as you may easily guess) it’s a strategy RPG focused on the control of the Muv-Luv franchise’s signature TSF (Tactical Surface Fighter) mecha.
The game has been quietly in development for three years by developers at Fuzz with extensive SRPG experience, according to the plans laid out by Muv-Luv series Producer Kazutoshi “Tororo” Matsumura. The aim is to release it as a “home” game, which in the context of the Japanese gaming industry means for consoles and/or PC.
One interesting element that has already been announced is that the game will be financed via a crowdfunding campaign. A dedicated Discord Server (at the moment in Japanese) has already been launched.
Further details will be announced at a later time, and fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more information that will be unveiled gradually.
The trailer below mentions that he next big reveal will come during a livestreamed event on October 19.
If you’re unfamiliar with the work of Fuzz, it’s a Tokyo-based studio that has been working on the Muv-Luv series for quite a while. On top of that, it’s credited for support work on the PC version of Final Fantasy XV, the PC, PS3, and PS5 versions of Final Fantasy XIV, and more.
If the name Muv-Luv doesn’t ring a bell, it’s a franchise mostly focused on sci-fi visual novels developed by âge that debuted in Japan in 2003.
The original game for PC (which actually includes two visual novels, Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited) was then followed by Muv-Luv Alternative completing the trilogy in 2006. It’s considered by many one of the best visual novels of all time.
The trilogy was then ported to several platforms including PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita, Steam, and recently Nintendo Switch. It was also localized in English in 2016 following a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Several additional visual novels have expanded the franchise’s universe, on top of games from different genres like the action RPG Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story and the recent mobile game Muv-Luv Dimensions.
Incidentally, aNHCOR is also releasing the enhanced edition of another of âge’s most popular visual novels, Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, which is widely considered Muv-Luv’s prequel. In fact, its main heroines make a comeback in Muv-Luv Alternative. It’ll be released on Steam on October 18, 2024, localized in English for the first time.
