Misc Games, the developer behind simulators like Ships at Sea, has announced that it has regained its independence after finalizing the acquisition of the shares that Amplifier Game Invest held in the development studio.

Now, the development studio is free to develop the simulation games they love with the creative freedom and power over the strategic decisions for them.

One such sim is Ships at Sea, the current focus of Misc Games’ development. Ships at Sea is a next-generation ship simulator that’s available in Early Access on PC. It’s also currently on sale for 30% off until October 6 on Steam.

Other simulators from the studio include Fishing: North Atlantic and Fishing: Barents Sea.

This also gives Misc Games more control over the partnerships it has, such as the Macduff Ship Design partnership for Ships at Sea.

Gøran Myrland, CEO of Misc Games, shared exciting comments on the news:

“This is a milestone day for Misc Games. We are grateful for the support and collaboration we’ve had with Amplifier and Embracer over the past years. However, we believe independence allows us to fully realize our vision and continue to grow our unique brand of simulation games. This step strengthens our ability to serve our global community of players while keeping our roots firmly in Norway.”

Previously, Amplifier Game Invest (a subsidiary of Embracer Group) held shares and supported Misc Games, though this meant it had a say in what the development studio was doing.

Misc Games’ CEO did express their gratefulness over this support, though they are excited about the new freedom the development studio has.

Now, Misc Games is looking to the future as it plans to continue developing realistic sims that teach and entertain while working with real maritime companies. This is the group’s long-term vision, and now it has full freedom over how it does that.
