Earlier this year, Arrowhead Game Studios acknowledged the state of Helldivers 2 PC and the problems players have been experiencing with the game’s technical health. Today, the developers officially revealed their plans to address these issues with the new slim update.
The Helldivers 2 slim update is now available to early testers via beta, reducing the game’s install size from 154GB to 23GB. The main tradeoff for this massive 131GB space-saving measure is that loading times will only be a few seconds longer for anyone who doesn’t use SSD – anyone who does won’t see any changes at all.
Anyone can opt in to the beta program to help the developers test the slim version of the game, and you will have full matchmaking and online play with friends while testing it. All you have to do to join is follow the instructions below via Steam:

- In your Steam library, right-click on Helldivers 2 and select ‘Properties’.
- Next select the ‘Betas’ tab.
- In the Beta Participation drop down list, select “prod_slim”
- Finally just close the properties dialog and wait for the game to download the patch
Helldivers 2 was originally released back in February 2024 and has been a resounding success. In addition to plenty of rave reviews from both critics and fans, it became the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, with over 12 million sold in 12 weeks of its release, and is also Sony’s most successful Windows title.
The game is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for $39.99. For more information on this and the slew of other Warbond and quality of life updates that have been released for the console and PC versions of Helldivers 2, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily.
