Fortune’s Weave is set in the year 1449 in the Dagda Empire, where the ruler Solel holds a competition called the Heroic Games, offering a granted wish to the winner. Players can choose between four heroes, each with their own story, motivation, and allies: Cai, a young boy who wants to save his imprisoned father; Dietrich, a sailor washed ashore who is looking for a worthy opponent; Theodora, a woman from a kingdom who worships a goddess of death and wants to fight for honor; and Leda, a young woman who is born into prestige who seeks revenge for her father’s killer.

One of the perks in Fortune’s Weave is the ability to swap between each of the four heroes, allowing players to experience all of their stories in parallel. In other words, you won’t have to play through the entirety of one hero’s story before moving on to the next; you can change it up and make progress at any point.

The main gameplay in Fortune’s Weave is typical of most Fire Emblem games, allowing players to pick their party members and strategize in turn-based battle. Between matches, players can explore the city of Dagsion to prepare for the next battle.

There is a wide range of establishments available to visit between matches, such as a training arena, a shopping arcade for purchasing weapons, a temple to receive stat boosts, certification exams, and inns. Gathering intel on opponents at various locations is also an important part of the preparation, and more locations are unlocked as the story progresses. Areas outside of Dagsion can also be visited, with time passing each move, to explore dungeons, collect materials, and clash with enemies.

There are three types of classes you can choose from, each with their own specific abilities in combat: five beginner classes (such as gladiators and diviners), 10 specialty classes (such as armored knight and charioteer), and four or more advanced classes (such as elephant rider and dragoon). Abilities, weapons, and range can all change depending on a unit’s chosen class.

Then, the story features a five-year time jump to the year 1454, in which the true protagonist is revealed, and players can either use the four heroes they’ve trained to help save the kingdom or face this quest solo.

The Direct ended with the reveal of a special edition called the Dagdan Collection, which comes with a 150-page art book, art cards, a map of the kingdom, and a steelbook. Nintendo Music will also be updated later in the day with tracks from the game.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will release on September 17, 2026, on the Nintendo Switch 2. Preorders are open on the Nintendo eShop.

You can watch the Direct in its entirety below. You can also check out the original reveal.
