Zombie action fans finally got their wish earlier today, as a Q&A with Franchise Director Tymon Smektala answered a boatload of questions surrounding Techland’s upcoming title, Dying Light: The Beast. To start the interview off, he confirmed that it would indeed be a standalone title and that it came about because of the DLC plans being leaked earlier in the year.

“The community was very eager to learn everything about Dying Light, and they managed to dig out some very juicy and very crucial details about the narrative,” Smektala said. “So this made us think, ‘what should we do with this? Shout we ignore it?'” The result was a decision to not only make Kyle Crane (Dying Light & Dying Light: The Following) the protagonist but to build an entire game around the returning mercenary.

In order to move forward with this, the developers all agreed they’d need to have Roger Craig Smith, the original voice actor and voice of Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, would need to return. Thankfully, he agreed. Smektala went on to discuss some other more interesting changes coming in Dying Light: The Beast, including when the story would be taking place.

Dying Light: The Beast takes place after the events of Dying Light 2, a little more than 13 years after Kyle Crane was originally captured. During that time, he has been tortured and tormented by his captors, changing his personality significantly from the last time players saw him in Dying Light: The Following.

Dying Light: The Beast doesn’t currently have a release date or launch window, and consoles have yet to be confirmed. For more information on the upcoming action-adventure zombie title, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily.
