CD Projekt Red has released the free PlayStation 5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077, adding three new graphics modes, enhancing the game’s visuals while also ensuring a smoother experience.
The three new graphics modes are a Ray Tracing Mode, Performance Mode, and Ray Tracing Pro Mode.
Ray Tracing Mode turns on ray-traced reflections on vehicles and transparent objects. All the shadows are rendered using ray tracing at 60 FPS, and it’s the default game mode (and recommended mode by developers) when playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Performance Mode focuses on making sure Cyberpunk 2077 runs at 60 FPS consistently. In this mode, it’ll also aim to go up to 90 FPS on VRR-enabled displays.
The Ray Tracing Pro Mode adds ray tracing to skylights, emissive lighting, and ambient occlusion. It’ll run at 40 FPS on displays that have high refresh rates (HFR) and up to 30 FPS on displays without HFR.
Besides the graphics modes, there are other changes that make Cyberpunk 2077 look and run better in the PlayStation 5 Pro update.
Players will now be able to use the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to upscale the graphics. Essentially, this makes it so that the game is rendering in a lower quality but using AI to enhance it, increasing performance.
Changes to ray-tracing were also made, reducing how often shadows pop in and out during gameplay. Other changes include BCH8 support and a VRS algorithm, both of which work to optimize the performance and look of lighting, shadows, reflections, and shading.
