Earlier today on X, ConcernedApe addressed Stardew Valley 1.6 ports and reassured players that DLC and update content will always be free for the farming simulator in a grand way.

The solo developer for the indie darling swore on his family name that he’d never charge for Stardew Valley DLC. He also encouraged fans to screenshot his post and publicly shame him if he ever changes his mind.

I swear on the honor of my family name, i will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live. Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath

— ConcernedApe (@ConcernedApe) July 22, 2024

This “oath” came after telling fans he’s working hard to bring Stardew Valley’s 1.6 update to consoles and mobile. Players have been waiting for news about other ways to play since the massive update’s PC release in March. ConcernedApe explained that he’s hands-on with the mobile update specifically:

I have personally been working on the mobile port every day. I will announce when there is any meaningful news (e.g. a release date).

Prior to this update, ConcernedApe last updated fans on 1.6 ports back in May. Many are eager to play the new update on devices that aren’t PC, as it includes new end-game content, festivals, and even NPC clothes.

Mobile ports have specifically been a problem in the past for Stardew Valley. The last major update, 1.5, had a vague release date for 2022 and didn’t meet it as it had to be rewritten. It was released in early 2023 instead, and ConcernedApe pointed out that future updates should be easier.

While there’s no release date in sight, ConcernedApe has a lot on his plate. Besides being the sole developer for Stardew Valley and working on bugs and ports, he’s also developing Haunted Chocolatier in the background.

The upcoming game features similar graphics to Stardew Valley, but players will trade in their inherited farm for a shop. An early look at the gameplay can be found here.
