In just three days, Black Myth: Wukong has had over 10 million sales, cementing its success after being one of the most anticipated titles in 2024.
The game was released on August 20 for PC and PlayStation 5. It follows the story of the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West. Black Myth: Wukong received incredible reviews from the majority of players and critics alike.
On release, it soared to the top of Steam’s charts. With over 2.2 million concurrent players, Black Myth: Wukong became the game with the second-highest peak of concurrent players on the PC platform. Now, we know that the game has hit 3 million concurrent players across both PS5 and PC.
The success was hesitantly hoped for by fans – the trailers looked incredible, and developer Game Science delivered what it promised.
The only other game from Game Science on Steam is Art of War: Red Tides. While the game saw mostly positive reviews, it didn’t have the same success compared to Black Myth: Wukong.
However, the game has seen a bubble of reviews crop up over the past few days. This may be due to Black Myth: Wukong, and Art of War: Red Tides may have new life in the coming months because of it.
This is another knockout success for Chinese developers. They’ve proven that they have what it takes to sell good games recently. Hoyoverse stands out across the world for gacha games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Plus, farming sims from China like My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock have been popular with the community.
