There are many kinds of simulators out there, but one that places you in control of a whole battleship is a rarity: enter Battleship Command.

The game is being created in Unity by solo developer “Bracer” and does pretty much what it says on the tin. It’ll let you control a Scharnhorst-class warship during World War II.

For now, Germany and the Scharnhorst are the only options, but the developer mentions that if the game is successful, after release, they might expand to other nations like the UK or Italy, with more ships.

A campaign will be included, and the playable map is described as such: “You can travel approximately between Greenland and the Barents Sea, down to the Canary Islands and all the Mediterranean.”

Fleet command will also be part of the gameplay, with AI ships escorting our playable one, and the ability to give them orders.

The game will be released for PC on Steam (with no date or window just yet), but the dedicated page isn’t ready yet. At the moment, the easiest way to keep up is via the developer’s Discord server, from which we also extrapolated the information above.

And yes, if you’re wondering, the creator is well aware that the Scharnhorst was a battlecruiser and not technically a “Battleship.” Also, there indeed is a plan to improve the visuals, as many of the assets included at the moment are placeholders that will be replaced.

You can see a trailer below, released today. If you’re interested in seeing how the game plays, you can enjoy a previous video showcasing the art of gunnery.

Considering its uniqueness, this is certainly a simulator we’ll keep an eye on. Besides, the developer is a fan of Silent Hunter and Destroyer Command, and that’s great in my book.
