Today, Obsidian Entertainment launched the Avowed Anniversary Update (Patch 2.0.0), coinciding with the game’s one-year anniversary and its debut on PlayStation 5.
Avowed Patch 2.0.0 revolves primarily around improving replayability and customization to make for a more enjoyable and longer-lasting experience. One of the biggest additions is New Game Plus.
In New Game Plus, players can carry over abilities and items into an Adventure 2 playthrough. Items do reset to level 1 for a fresh upgrade loop, the attribute cap has been increased to 30, and a new adaptive difficulty scaling mode has been added, where enemies gain new elemental modifiers or high-impact spells. Difficulty in general can be thoroughly customized now, as toggles for enemy health, attack speed, merchant prices, and XP bonuses have been added to allow for a highly tailored challenge outside of standard presets.
New playable species are now available, including:
- Dwarves – The most well-traveled species in Eora, the stout dwarves are known for their great strength and tenacity.
- Orlans – Their two-toned skin, prominent ears, and hirsute bodies all in the smallest size of Kith make them stand outs in Eora.
- Aumaua – Towering, powerfully built, and physically imposing.
Each race has unique first-person camera heights, as well as minor stat bonuses and a stat boost that comes along with your background choice, adding more to your build variety. Weapon-wise, a new two-handed weapon is available, designed specifically for archmage builds, which includes unique elemental variants like frost and poison.

Speaking of new objects, the Magic Mirror can be found in your camp, letting you re-customize your character’s physical appearance after the initial creation. Once you’ve got your look down, you can capture it in all its glory via the Photo Mode, which features a full suite of tools for capturing shots in the Living Lands, including UI toggles and visual effects.
Quality-of-life improvements in the Avowed Anniversary update also include new melee finisher animations for two-handed hammers, axes, swords, daggers, and spears, improved lighting, and more skippable dialogue sequences. The game is currently available for Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), and PS5.
