American Truck Simulator 1.58 Update Gets Open Beta Release Including Route 66 Rewok and More

Today, SCS Software released the open beta of the next major update to American Truck Simulator, numbered 1.58.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the update is the Rework of Route 66, and more specifically, an overhaul of the surrounding locations, depots, landmarks, and cities found along the historical highway in Northern Arizona and parts of New Mexico.

We already saw plenty of the rework, including a few new and remade cities, the Grand Canyon, and Hoover Dam.

We also get the new Double Trailer Handling section in the Driving Academy and the reworked Truck Garages, on top of the update to vehicle physics and collisions.

More big changes include a redesign of the tutorial around a system of contextual hints, and a redesign of the Route Advisor, replaced with a new widget system, which you can customize.

The pause screen has been redesigned as well and turned into a quick info feature displaying details like controls, truck information, job details, and local regulations.

The UI of the Truck and Trailer Configurator has been refined and improved, aiming to provide “clearer navigation, better feedback, and added hints where needed.”

Lastly, the developers applied a few finishing touches to the Management Screen, including Driver, Trailer, Truck, and Garage Managers.

The game will soon cross the borders of the United States and go to Canada with the British Columbia DLC.

Another big project is the Road Trip feature, spearheaded by the Ford Car Pack (of which we also saw the Ford Crown Victoria and the Ford F-150), which will expand the simulator’s experience from trucks to cars and pickup trucks, including pure exploration and the delivery of smaller packages.
