EA Sports NHL 26 Shows Vision Control Changes, Contact Adjustments & More

Today, Electronic Arts returned for another deep dive, showcasing the next installment in their hit hockey series, EA Sports NHL 26. The first official look at on-ice gameplay showcases a lot of the changes they’ve already promised, including ICE-Q 2.0, the new Goalie Crease Control System, and plenty of other data-driven and quality-of-life-based gameplay updates.

Powered by NHL EDGE data, ICE-Q 2.0 in EA Sports NHL 26 is all about knowing how players and opponents think, move, and play like their on-ice selves, using Attributes and Tendencies inspired by the pros to fine-tune their playstyles and decision-making. Players can choose between 28 X-Factors, which span five different categories and use unique animations, tactical gameplay outcomes, and tiers of impact in accordance with their specialties.

One of the first examples of changes coming that can be seen in the video below is a tweak to Vision Control. While LT movement is still a part of the game, EA Sports NHL 26 will put a speed cap and penalty on players entering the zone or spamming the move too much to avoid it being cheesed too often.

Contact is also far more important and realistic this time around, as offensive players won’t be invulnerable when reverse hitting. Size, location, and speed are now taken into account in these situations, meaning that they won’t be able to just skate through defenders now. You can see a few examples in the video below.

The new Goalie Crease Control System was also on full display, as goaltenders now have improved awareness and reflexes between the posts, featuring new close-range saves and movements. This allows for readjustments in reaction to puck deflections, poke checks, and improved AI positioning, giving goalies increased control over the blue paint.

EA Sports NHL 26 is now available for pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, releasing on September 25, 2025, with no PC or Nintendo Switch 2 release planned for this year. For more information on this and other EA Sports titles, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily.
