Square Enix has been striving to expand the multiplatform releases of its games, including Final Fantasy XVI, and perhaps a port for the Nintendo Switch 2 may be on the menu.

During a livestream from Square Enix’s headquarters in Tokyo, mostly focusing on Final Fantasy XIV, Producer Naoki Yoshida and Creative Director Kazutoyo Maehiro were introducing the recently-released Xbox version of FFXVI, and Yoshida-san mentioned, “Now all that’s left is Nintendo.”

The two confirmed the notion, and both mentioned “Let’s do our best, ok?” Then they both used the expression “Seiha shitai yo.” That’s a typical expression in Japanese that loosely translates into “I want to take on that challenge.”

While this isn’t an official confirmation of a port or even a promise that it’ll be done, it’s certainly an interesting hint to the fact that the will to release the game on Nintendo Switch 2 exists.

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see whether said will will line up with the opportunity cost and the business side of the equation. +

Final Fantasy XVI wouldn’t be the only Final Fantasy game coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix already announced the port of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and more recently, we saw the reveal of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.

Of course, many are also wondering about a port of Final Fantasy XIV, but nothing has been mentioned on that topic.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.

Speaking of today’s livestream, Naoki Yoshida revealed the first screenshots and details about the next FFXIV update, numbered 7.3 and coming in Early August. He also acknowledged a slip in the quality of the service, apologizing for it and addressing feedback from players on the recent Cosmic Exploration and Occult Crescent features.
