Following the grand finals of Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising at EVO 2024 in Las Vegas, Cygames shared news about updates and new characters coming down the line.
First of all, during the livestreamed event, we got a look at new gameplay of the upcoming brand-new DLC character Versusia, but the big news was the reveal of Vikala, who will be released in October 2024.
On top of that, we learn that Character Pass Season 2 is coming to Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and it includes “several” new characters. While none of them was officially named, the ultra-popular Sandalphon was teased with a picture and the mention that the character pass is “in the wings.”
You can watch the trailer below.
Sandalphon is one of the most beloved characters in the Granblue Fantasy franchise (which also includes the recently released JRPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink), so it’s not surprising that he’s finally being included in the game.
As a matter of fact, it’s probably more surprising that it has taken this long, especially considering that he was at the top of an official poll displaying the audience’s wishes for new characters.
The developer also mentioned the features of the next update, version 1.50, which will include the following.
- New DLC character: Versusia
- New Story Episodes
- New Stage
- Balance adjustments for the entire roster
- Grand Master Rank
- New Online Lobby mini-game
- New Grasd Bruise! game mode
- New battle pass
- And much, much more!
The update will release alongside Versusia on August 20.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is a fighting game based on the popular Granblue Fantasy mobile game. It was originally released as Granblue Fantasy: Versus, but Cygames’ esport ambitions were seriously hindered by Covid-19, which basically killed in-person fighting game events.
Yet, the re-release launched successfully and has been included in EVO’s main lineup, which is certainly a testament to the fact that the game is on the rise.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is currently available for PS5, PS4, and PC.
Yesterday, EVO 2024 brought us news about Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves by SNK, and more planned games by the Osaka-based developer.
