Today the wait for the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 ends, bringing a new generational jump for flight simulation and for the Digital Twin of our planet created by Microsoft.

The release of Microsoft Flight Simulator in 2020 marked a rebirth moment for the flight simulation genre, which had become insular and had suffered several years of decline due to the lack of a player in the industry capable (or willing) of reaching a wide audience.

With MSFS 2024, the genre takes another bold step into the future with a brand new career mode, an updated and overhauled Digital Twin of Earth, more aircraft out of the box than we’ve ever seen, upgraded physics, and much more.

To learn more about this release, we interviewed Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann, but of course, we didn’t stop at today, and we also quizzed him on what we can expect down the line.

You can watch the full interview below.

As a note, the interview was recorded just before the decision was taken not to open the official marketplace immediately at release, which is why Neumann is not yet positive about it.

Incidentally, you’ll hear a livestream referenced a couple of times, and it’s the one hosted by the Flight Simulation Association we had on November 2 with other journalists and content creators, discussing the upcoming simulator.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 releases today, November 19, 2024, for PC and Xbox Series X|S.

If you’d like to read more, you can enjoy our hands-on preview with plenty of interesting details for your perusal. It’s worth reminding that Simulation Daily won’t publish a review, as we do not review games. We prefer to provide you with the tools to judge whether a game or a simulator is for you by yourself.

You can also watch our previous interview with Jorg Neumann himself and Asobo CEO Sebastian Wloch, another with Asobo CCO David Dedeine, and one featuring Chris Burnett of Working Title and Brandon Yaeger of Got Friends about their work on MSFS 2024.

Last, but not least, you can take a look at our A-10 flight through the Grand Canyon, our first look at the extensive pilot customization, another at the first mission of the Career Mode, a video featuring the new walk-around move showing off a Boeing 737 MAX up close and personal, and a challenge with the A-10 over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
