Today, Microsoft took to social media to tease its next-generation Xbox console, code-named “Project Helix.”
The name was revealed by Asha Sharma, the new CEO of Microsoft’s gaming business, who recently succeeded Phil Spencer following his retirement.
She mentioned on X (formerly Twitter) that today the Xbox team discussed its commitment to the return of the brand, including the next-generation console, code-named Project Helix.
She also promised that it will “lead in performance” and confirmed that it’ll play both Xbox and PC games. The executive then mentioned that she will chat about it with partners and studios at GDC next week.
The official Xbox X account also followed up by providing an animated version of the logo.
This is a solid rebuttal to speculation that Sharma was chosen for the position to “sunset” the Xbox brand.
While that speculation did not make a lick of sense and came froma source that has not worked in the gaming industry for decades, it was still amplified by the most sensationalist areas of the gaming press, ever hungry for drama and traffic.
At the moment, we don’t know when the console will be fully revealed. Considering that Sharma mentioned talking about it with partners and developers, likely behind closed doors, it’s possible that the wait may be fairly extensive. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
