During the financial conference call for Q4 of the fiscal year 2025, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella and Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood provided insight about the performance of the company’s Xbox gaming business.
Nadella mentioned during the livestreamed conference call that Microsoft has 500 million monthly active users for gaming across platforms and devices and is the top publisher on both Xbox and PlayStation this quarter, following the previous quarter’s successful trend.
“When it comes to gaming. We have 500 million monthly active users across platforms and devices. We are now the top publisher on both Xbox and PlayStation this quarter, with successful launches of Forza Horizon 5 and Oblivion Remastered.”
The executive also boasted the success of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, with 50 million players and over 2 billion total gameplay hours. Minecraft also broke records thanks to the synergy with the dedicated movie.
“The Call of Duty franchise has never been stronger. 50 million people have played Black Ops 6, and the total hours are past two billion. Minecraft saw record monthly active usage and revenue this quarter, thanks in large part to the success of the Minecraft movie.”
Nadella then confirmed that Microsoft has nearly 40 games in development, and added that 500 million hours of gameplay have been streamed via Xbox Cloud Gaming during the fiscal year (between July 2024 and June 2025).
On top of that, he announced that Game Pass has generated nearly $5 billion in revenue for the first time during the fiscal year.
“And we have nearly 40 games in development and so much, much more to come. We surpassed over 500 million hours of gameplay streamed via the cloud this year and Game Pass annual revenue was nearly 5 billion dollars for the first time.”
If you’re wondering, $5 billion is over 21% of Microsoft’s total gaming revenue of $23.455 billion reported for the full fiscal year.
As is tradition, Hood also announced the revenue forecast for the gaming business related to the current quarter, between July and September 2025.
She mentioned that total gaming revenue should decline in the mid to high single digits due to the comparison with a stronger previous year. Xbox content and services revenue is also expected to decline in the mid-single digits.
Similarly to the previous quarter, Hood did not provide a forecast for Xbox hardware revenue.
