The announcement, made via the Guangdong-based studio’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, doesn’t provide further details besides mentioning that the development of the port is ongoing.

We also get the promise that more information on the PS5 version will come down the line, but we have no release window for now. You can read the full announcement below.

Dear Rovers,
We are excited to announce that the PS5 version of Wuthering Waves is now officially in development. We’ll provide updates on the official launch time of the PS5 version in the future. Please stay tuned for more information!

If you’re unfamiliar with Wuthering Waves, it’s the latest of a trendy sequence of free-to-play action RPGs developed by Chinese developers including HoYoverse’s titles like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero, and similar games like Tower of Fantasy.

While Wuthering Waves is not directly related to them, it offers a similar style and business model, and targets a similar crowd.

Interestingly, most of these games have also received PS5 ports following their initial releases on iOS, Android, and PC, and Wuthering Waves is following exactly the same path.

The game was launched just a couple of months ago on May 22, 2024. While it doesn’t appear to have reached massive crowds like some of its competitors, it seems to have carved itself a niche in a market that is becoming quite crowded, which isn’t a small feat.

It’ll be interesting to see whether its charming anime-style characters, fluid animations, and gacha mechanics will manage to lead it to earn a sizable slice of the market on PS5 as well.
