Today, King Art Games has released a couple of new Battlefield Reports highlighting the multiplayer gameplay of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 4.
Each Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 4 Battlefield Report offers a closer look at the game’s four playable factions, as explained by Creative Director Jan Theysen and Senior Game Designer Elliott Verbiest. First, we get a look at two 1v1 multiplayer matches that demonstrate how each faction’s unique mechanics shape different strategic approaches, specifically how the Adeptus Mechanicus faces off against the Necrons.
The Adeptus Mechanicus focus on expanding the Noosphere Network, reinforcing defensive positions with advanced technology, and establishing powerful firing lines. In contrast, the Necrons advance across the battlefield by extending their Power Matrix, using resurrection mechanics to recover from losses, and maintaining constant offensive pressure.
We also got a good look at Space Marines against the Orks, highlighting the difference between the Space Marines’ adaptability and the Orks’ aggressive, momentum-driven playstyle. Each of the four factions is designed to encourage distinct strategies, with gameplay differences extending beyond individual unit types to influence how players approach each battle.
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 4 is a real-time strategy game set in the Warhammer 40k universe, featuring four playable factions, multiple non-linear campaigns, competitive multiplayer, and returning modes such as Last Stand and Skirmish.
The title is set to launch for PC via Steam on September 17, 2026. Anyone who purchases the Commander Edition will receive a three-day early unlock beginning September 14, 2026, and both editions are currently available for preorder at a 10% discount.
Year One post-launch support will include free updates featuring the return of Crusade Mode, additional maps, multiplayer modes, new Commanders, and a Mission Editor. Two major story expansions that will continue the conflict on Kronus and introduce an additional playable faction are also in development.
