Gaijin Entertainment has had quite a busy 2024, releasing a slew of big updates for its hit free-to-play vehicular combat multiplayer game, War Thunder.
Whether it was Firebirds, Dance of Dragons, or general quality of life touch-ups, it is clear that this was a good year for players. That statement becomes even more clear when you look at the infographic that the developers just released for War Thunder 2024, which breaks down a bunch of crazy stats:
- Total number of battles: 122 million
- Time spent in game (hours): 422 million
- Squad rewards: 1.4 billion
- Aircraft destroyed: 2.2 billion
- Ground vehicles destroyed: 5.2 billion
- Number of nukes deployed: 1.4 million
Alongside these impressive collective stats, there were a lot of individual milestones reached for players as well. Over 343 million achievements and 134 million challenges were completed by users in 2024, while viewers spent 2.7 million hours watching tournaments and receiving drops – the equivalent to 308 years of watch time.
These numbers are impressive for any title, let alone a free-to-play game in a niche setting, but it makes sense considering just how much content was added to War Thunder in 2024. Across the five major updates, with a total of 335 updates for the year, and 260 new additions, the most popular vehicles were the Turm III (ground), F-4S Phantom II (aircraft), Mi-24A (helicopter), and IJN Satsuki (boat).
War Thunder is currently available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. For more information, including plenty of more updates that were promised by the developers for 2025, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
