Today the opening of a new studio in Japan named Velux Studio has been announced via press release.
The studio is led by Sho Igarashi, who has previously worked as a lead game designer and development manager at the recently closed Luminous Productions, Cygames, and FromSoftware, mainly focusing on “high-end battle gameplay production.”
It’s located in Shibuya, Tokyo, and formed by developers with “extensive experience” with plans to create “games for game lovers” for all platforms, including PC, consoles, and smartphones.
The platform of choice is Unreal Engine 5. At the moment, no specific projects have been announced and the studio appears to be keen on working with other companies on specific aspects of games like battles, level designs, modeling, and more.
An official website has been launched alongside the announcement, showing a couple of pictures of what appears to be a sci-fi environment.
Of course, we’ll keep an eye on Velux Studio, and let you know if they announce anything interesting going forward.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Luminous Productions, it was founded by Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata and created Forspoken under Square Enix’s umbrella. The studio was then disbanded and reabsorbed by its parent company under its Creative Business Unit II back in 2023.
Cygames is well known for the Granblue Fantasy and Umamusume franchises, while FromSoftware is famous for the Soulslike genre, named after its Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls games and recently culminated with Elden Ring. It also recently released Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon.
