Today, Riot Games announced that Valorant Mobile is officially happening, and that they are partnering with Lightspeed Studios to bring the title to China.
The news came via X, which revealed that the exclusivity would begin with China, but that the team had plans to “take it from there,” stating they would keep fans updated as things progressed. Valorant mobile was originally announced back in 2021, meaning that it has been in development for over four years at this point.
While the tweet didn’t offer a look at what to expect, YouTuber AnakinGG was able to show what was broadcast on the Chinese channels. In the video below, you can see that the gameplay is similar to the PC version of the game, but there are on-screen buttons that need to be used due to the mobile interface..
Valorant was released in 2020 by Riot Games, which was originally best known for its work on League of Legends. This new title was the team’s take on Counter-Strike, borrowing many of the mechanics that the first-person tactical shooter did best and incorporating hero elements.
Since then, Valorant has seen considerable success, leading to a console port that helped boost its player base to over 14 million monthly active players. This success, in turn, led Riot Games to branch out and test the mobile market.
Pre-registration is already available for Chinese players, allowing them to participate in the next Valorant Mobile playtest when it is revealed. Currently, there is no concrete release date for these tests or the full game.
