The news came by way of a Twitter post, in which the devs revealed the game would be canceled and that the studio was sorry they had to pull the plug. Splash Damage stated they’d be scaling down in order to refocus their efforts on other projects, hoping to avoid losing any team member’s jobs along the way.

Splash Damage was originally formed back in 2001, making a name for themselves by creating mods like Quake 3 Fortress, which eventually led to them creating Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and Brink.

The developers continued to grow a name for themselves in the multiplayer scene, working on games like Batman: Arkham Origins, Gears of War 4, and Gears of War 5. The team eventually got some significant standalone work as well, as they were responsible for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in 2015 and Gears Tactics in 2020.

Transformers: Reactivate was announced during The Game Awards 2022 and was set to be one of the studio’s biggest titles yet. The game looked to help reinvent the gaming portion of the franchise, promising to “explore a fresh, new story within the Transformers universe.”

Splash Damage ended their tweet by apologizing to the fans but also hoping that they’d be able to rebound and continue to grow again in the future. For more information on the studio, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
