Today, Dovetail Games showed off the first look at Manchester Airport Commuter: Manchester – Alderley Edge in Train Sim World 5. The new location is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC (Epic Games Store and Steam) on July 1, 2025, for $39.99, marking the debut of developer Alan Thomson Simulation’s series.

Train Sim World 5 Manchester Airport Commuter will feature 27 miles of track out from Manchester Piccadilly through to the suburban countryside setting of Alderley Edge via Manchester Airport. This railway was established as a major truck route and was then supplemented in the early 1900s with the addition of the Styal Line, serving as an alternative path between Wilmslow and Manchester.

In 1993, a spur would be built off this new line to serve Manchester Airport, taking trains directly under the flight path and right next to EGCC’s second air terminal, which you can experience for yourself in this new add-on.

The Manchester Airport Commuter will feature both spines (a main line via Stockport and the Styal line via Manchester Airport, converging at Wilmslow), with both branches offering busy traffic into the heart of the city. Manchester Piccadilly features a full station concourse and a fully explorable Metrolink and taxi rank area – route hopping is also available for anyone who also owns the Gossip Line.

The Northern Class 323 EMU and Class 66 Diesel Locomotive are the locomotives for this DLC, with the one main difference being that services will feature a functioning Conductor Mode (or Guard Mode). You’ll get to explore the route across two timetables, with a weekday schedule forming the standard set of passenger operations in addition to the alternative Sunday patterns.

Those with other Add-ons in their collection will be able to see and operate additional services along the routes, including:

  • Class 350 services from West Coast Main Line South, operating from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport and Ardwick Depot.
  • Avanti West Coast Class 390 Pendolino services between Wilmslow or Stockport to Manchester Piccadilly plus Static stock at Longsight Electric TMD
  • ScotRail Class 158 services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.
  • EMT Class 158 services from Midland Main Line operating services between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport
  • Class 87 rail tour services in the weekday timetable from Just Trains’ West Coast Main Line: Preston-Carlisle route Add-on
  • Railhead Treatment Train services and freight via Heald Green and Stockport.
  • Class 150 & 153 services from Cardiff City Network. These will appear in a variety of formations, including different mixed 150+153 combos.

Train Sim World 5 is currently available for $49.99 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC (Epic Games Store and Steam). Dozens of tracks have been added to Train Sim World 5 since its release back in September 2024, including routes in London, Wales, the Mittenwaldbahn, and much more.
